Northern Ireland in Photos

Northern Ireland is composed of 6 counties in the north of Ireland and is naturally a beautiful place with mountains, rivers, and rugged sea coast. Politically, Northern Ireland has been a contested site for centuries. The two dominant populations, Ulster Protestants and Irish Catholics have traditionally fought to either remain a part of the United Kingdom or be united with the Republic of Ireland. The region went through a period of violent turmoil known as “The Troubles” but came to a formal peace agreement in 1998. The society is rapidly undergoing a great deal of political, social, and economic change.
